Katong Swimming Complex

Katong Swimming Complex is an old swimming complex with all the essential recreation and swimming training facilities.

It was first to open on the 1st of September 1975, and remains the private property of the Singapore Sports Council. Entry into this pool is prohibited unless authorized, such as during the operation hours of this swimming complex.

There is a competition pool, training and wading pools for family activities and swimming lessons. The pools here are ideal for beginner and intermediate swimming lessons.

The pool entrance is closed with a metal grey gate during non-operational hours, and gantries are found before entering the pool—seating capacity of up to 250 pax, and every pool is attended by two lifeguards at all times.

One of the significant things in this pool is the water animal design you won’t be able to see in some of the more recently designed swimming pools in Singapore.

Most fences and gates are colored green, yellow, and grey. All these bright colors will brighten your swimming lesson and recreational swimming.

Swimmers and students can enter the pool by purchasing tickets through the ACTIVE SG App and scanning their QR code via the scanner’s automated entrance.

This system has made it so much more convenient compared to before. Paying with coins during the 1990s was inconvenient for most of us when it is so heavy and not readily found.

Convenience

Katong swimming complex is situated conveniently beside some of the older landed properties.

Old HDBs built during the 1980s can also be found opposite the swimming complex within walking distance after crossing the bridge, behind SPC and ESSO petrol stations.

The nearest hawker center for food before and after swimming will be the famous old Airport Road food center, around 3 minute’s driving distance away.

Those who are into fast food, McDonald’s, and KFC are within walking distance after crossing the bridge separated by the Geylang River.

If you find it a hassle with all the walking and distances, just opposite the swimming complex in the Goodman Arts Centre, there is a cafe named Cafe Melba for quick and pleasant western foods.

Cafe Melba, besides being the most convenient drop-off for food, customers driving can park inside the Goodman Arts Centre as well.
Few parking lots are available in the Katong swimming complex during peak periods such as Saturday and Sunday.

Goodman Arts Centre will be a second alternative to provide parking for vehicles.

There is a small soccer field built for all the young kids at Cafe Melba, so if you are looking for somewhere to go for land-based activities, this will be a great place to go after swimming.
