Personal and Stroke Development Skills

Swimsafer Stage 3 – Principles of personal survival as well as basic rescue skills are being taught at this stage. The skills required include sculling, underwater skills and the use of personal flotation devices. The goal is to make sure students are able to do 50 meters of continuous swimming.

Test Criteria

Entries & Exits

1.Stride/Straddle Entry

Sculling & Body Orientation

1.Scull head first on back for 5 meter.

2.Scull, float or tread for 50 seconds ( together with some survival and activity skills)

Underwater Skills

Swim through hoops on the pool bottom of 2 meter depth

Movement / Swimming / Strokes

Swim 50 meters continuously:

25 meter Front Crawl and 25 meter Back Stroke

Swim 25 meter breast stroke and 25 meter survival backstroke
(Perform in sequence in 3A)

Survival & Activity Skills

Scull, float or tread water for 50 seconds.

Dressed in swimwear, shorts and t-shirt demonstrate:

1.Swim 25m using survival backstroke or survival breaststroke to a PFD

2. Correctly fit a PFD in water, swim 50 meter with PFD, then climb out of the water.

Knowledge

Principles of Personal Safety and Survival.

Environmental Awareness.

Health Awareness.

Emergency Situations and Survival Techniques.

Rescues.
